I watched the C4 Corvette episode and it consisted largely of two British men mocking the electrical system in an American car. There are many valid criticisms with American engineering and build quality they could have directed at the car, but if there’s one thing the British are in no position to talk shit about, it’s the electrical system in an automobile. It’s like asking the kid who ate crayons in kindergarten about fine cuisine.

I thought the same thing the first time I saw that episode. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

... They renounce their British citizenship, burn the Union Jack, and punch the Queen?

The C4 Corvette is probably the most widely known electrical nightmare made by an American automobile company. It’s still probably a heck of a lot less headache than a Jaguar XJ of the same vintage. To be fair, I’ve known a couple of C4 guys and they do not seem to be as problematic as some would suggest. I think the problems were mainly the very early cars from that generation of Corvette.

When it’s on a British car and fucking up, I’ll spell it their way. To
humour
them.

You’d think for being the ones who invented the language, they’d know how to speak it. Also humour and colour need the letter u. They look weird without it.

Actually aluminum is the original spelling. It was only changed later to aluminium to better fit with the other -iums in the periodic table. So while you are spelling it our way, you are spelling the internationally recognised way, albeit the wrong way.

I know. Some dweeb in a press office who didn’t understand how latin names worked and thought he did, and wanted to impress people with how SMRT he was. “Is lead’s latin name ‘plumb
ium
’, shit-for-brains? Is gold ‘aurium’? No, so shut the fuck up.”

I've admittedly had a couple electrical issues, mostly with the radio. The power antenna no longer retracts, the speakers choose when they work, and sometimes the signal cuts out completely. The hvac controls also don't always work. Otherwise it works great!

a friend and i were working on one (pay gig) and had one VERY NEARLY go up in flames on a test drive . a wire in the column shorted , making the whole thing live.
never trust the electrics on cars of that era..... have an extinguisher available at all times(one thats large enough to do some good). and be ready to pull the post on the battery.

yeah, once the smoke escapes from the wiring system, it wont work. you have to recharge the electric smoke (lucas pn s30433) to the factory specs, before you even TRY to do anything else.
